Alex Cross's Trial by James Patterson and RichardDilallo

I got to be honest I love James Patterson but ,I am not usually a fan of the collaborations ( for me  it tends to lose something) This will be the first time in my
adult life I am glad to say I was wrong! We go back in time to Mississippi's
violent past to the early 1900's.  Ben Corbett a Washington D.C. lawyer, who was born and bred in Eudora,Mississippi ,was sent back to his hometown By the president
,Theodore Roosevelt to investigate the lynchings going on in that state.  Now keep in
mind Mrs.Corbett isn't too pleased about the way things are going in the marriage
(and honey when mama ain't happy nobody is happy!)   because he takes on cases from people who can't afford to pay him. So the big question here is will their marriage
survive this trip?  His father is a respected judge in Eudora ,but feels disappointment
about his only son who defends people of color.  Can they make amends on this
trip back?  Abraham Cross (Alex Cross's great uncle ) will be a contact for him while he is in town mostly this story is told from Ben Corbett's perspective.  The dialogue was excellent and the characters were well rounded enough to be believable.  I don't care for stories where the character is all good or all bad because in real life there is more complexity than that.  James Patterson is very skilled at creating tension and moving the story at the right pace .  So overall I  really enjoyed this collaboration.  So what was your favorite book by James Patterson?  Is there a collaboration that you liked that stood out from the rest?

Ftc disclosure:  I would like to thank the Hatchet Book Group for allowing me the opportunity to review this
book and no I don't get paid to review this book but I am an Amazon Associate

The Swimming Pool by Holly LeCraw

Marcella Atkinson is the beautiful prisoner of her sorrows  her affair with
Cecil McClatchey ended her stable ,but slightly tortured marriage with Anthony
Atkinson.  Cecil McClatchey becomes the suspect of his wife's murder
and dies before he could clear his name. But his son,Jed, wonders if he
really could've cleared it.  Did his Father kill his own Mother?  This story
begins seven years later when Jed stumbles on a women's piece of clothing
that he didn't remember belonging to his Mom.
I got to say up front I am always impressed with authors who can use imagery very
well and she is definitely one of them.  As far as the plot,at first I was a little skeptical
about Jed and Marcella  of them not only bumping into each other again after all
that time(Jed and sisterCallie both live in other states)  and them falling for each other
but as the book progresses I began to wonder how they couldn't be together.
Anthony's character I didn't care for all that much (but I think that was the author's point).  I really couldn't stand Callie's character at all  even though she had every right to be depressed.
Im not sure if that's what was intended here.  Callie had gotten married within the 7 year period and had two
kids and seemed to be ok given the circumstances.  Fortunately we spend more time with Marcella,Anthony
and Cecil and his wife,Betsy (which would make sense).  I thought the writer's style was cerebral, sensuous
and prolific.  My overally impression is that the author can easily take the mundane things and make them
complicated, in an interesting way. The ending wasn't what I expected but it was a very well told story.  I
gave it 5 out of 5 stars . I would like to thank Double Day publishing for giving me an opportunity to review this book

After the Feeling By T N Williams (Urban Christian)

Germani and Scott use pornography to spice up their marriage.  Lately Germani has
felt that it's not right as Christian.  To add to our drama ,Scott's best friend Damon
and his wife not only watch it they go to strip clubs together!  So will Germani and Scott follow suit?  Can you start a relationship  doing things like this in the
beginning and then change the rules years later?  Can their marriage survive ?
Germani's cousin Mehki can't get a job because of his criminal record and won't
stay away from the baby mama who put in  prison in the first place.  Has he really
found Christ  or is this another  case of  someone finding God when they're locked up
and forgetting all about him when they get out?  Scott's niece Alexis has sickle cell
anemia and is getting worse .  Will her deadbeat dad ,Alex step up to the plate ?

I enjoyed the the dialogue which I feel is the author's strong point.  I definitely wanted to know what happened next . Good plot.  I felt the writer's style to be down
to earth and funny.  I will definitely be reading more of her work.  I give this book
                                    4 out of  5 stars

The Language of Secrets By Dianne Dixon

The Language of Secrets Handsome green eyed Justin Fisher who is the manager of a posh hotel has a troubled past that intereferes
with the life he's trying to build with his wife Amy and his son Zach.  He hasn't seen his parents or his sisters
in awhile.  He goes back to his parents house on Lima street only to find it's been sold and to add insult to injury his parents are dead.  Just when you think it can't get worse he finds another grave next to his parents' grave with his name on it from 1975!  I found myself sympathetic to Justin's character intially especially since
the wife Amy wasn't supportive at all,she came across as someone who has led a pampered existence her
husband's shocking discoveries were treated as a huge inconvience.  I personally would've liked to see more
about there son Zack, but because we have alot of flashbacks to 1974 to try to understand  how Justin got to this point I went with it.  The imagery started to fall pretty flat early on,but read it anyway because I was curious(not totally convinced but still wanting to know how all this was going to fit together).  I saw alot of potential in the beginning, but the biggest problem I had was the story opened with the premise that Justin hadn't seen his family in 10 years,Justin tried to reach out to his"estranged" sister but not only does she not know who he is
she wants him off her property, it's not until much later in the book that you find out that he hadn't seen them
in 30 years and because of trauma he managed to block out 20-25 years!   The author's style of writing was very unimaginitive.  I can only give it 1 out of 5 stars
